Today, I spent a lot of time in the car traveling to a 60th birthday party in San Francisco and a 40th wedding anniversary party in Alamo. So perhaps these life events caused me to listen to Bonnie Raitt, one of my favorite artists 40 years ago.
I saw Bonnie perform several times at the legendary Music Inn in Lenox, MA, which was a natural amphitheatre, with a shallow meadow sloping to the stage and a beautiful stand of pine trees beyond. There were the most amazing shows there during the mid 70s and in addition to Bonnie, and I remember seeing Jesse Colin Young and Emmy Lou Harris, Renaissance with Jean Luc Ponty, and I know I attended many other shows that have since faded into the mists.
I listened today to one of Bonnie’s Music Inn shows that I downloaded from Wolfgang’s Vault. It ended with her encore performance of the Eric Kaz/Libby Titus song ‘Love Has No Pride.’ I was reminded of the debates I would have with my college friends over whose was the superior interpretation: Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt‘s, or my favorite, Tracy Nelson (alas, not readily available on-line).
This song has apparently disappeared from the repertoire. It’s ready for a reprise.
