As part of our office move, we needed a new fax machine (our 20 year old Canon FaxPhone 8– cost me $799) no longer cut the mustard. We also need a new copier (our Toshiba 3301 was used when we bought it in 1988). And we didn’t have room for our SCSI flatbed scanner. After a lot of investigation, I settled on a Brother MFC 7820N multi-function. It’s a black and white laser printer (so lower cost per page than the ink jets), with fax/copy/scan. It also has a sheet feeder for the fax and copies. It’s got ethernet, so we can access this from any computer — even the scanner!
Anyway, this cost my $279 from Amazon, and I’m pretty pleased with it. It also has a USB and parallel interface in case you don’t want to network it.
My one complaint is that it doesn’t speak SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). In order to connect the fax to my Asterisk PBX, I had to buy a Linksys Analog Telephone Adapter.
